1. What is a Chat Server?
Outlook Messenger Chat Server is an Online Server Application hosted on our dedicated server

Who can use it :
If your company has multiple branches in various locations/countries, Outlook Messenger Chat Server can help you achieve optimal communication, fast and effective.
If you want to communicate with office users while travelling /at home or even with a mobile browser, Chat Server is a smart option.

How it works:
All office/branch Outlook Messenger clients will be connected with their related Link Server within a LAN. The Link Server will be connected with the Online Chat Server via the Internet. Similarly all office/branch Link Servers should be connected with the Chat Server. Chat server bridges the connected link servers of your company & makes sure that you can view all the branch users in Outlook Messenger.
An Outlook Messenger client can also connect directly with Chat Server via the internet.
A Browser based Mobile Outlook Messenger version is also available to connect with Chat Server.
More details.
2. How to open an Online Chat Server Account.
Since Chat Server is still in the beta stage, we are offering a one month free trial, for Outlook Messenger purchased users ONLY. If you are an existing Outlook Messenger Customer & want to try Chat Server, send a request for a Chat Server Account to support@srimax.com with your Company/Order Details.
3. Do all Users need an Internet Connection?
No. All Outlook Messenger Clients will be connected with your Link Server through LAN. Only the Link Server needs to connect to our Chat Server via the internet. If you are working from home, you can connect Outlook Messenger directly to Chat Server via the Internet.
4. How does Outlook Messenger Chat Server differ from other Messenger Servers?
In Normal Client/Server Chat applications, there is a Single Chat Server & all clients need to connect with that particular Server.

For example, if you have multiple branches, you need to install Chat Server in one office & all other branch Messenger users need to connect to that Server directly (via internet or other sources). In this setup, even communication between two users in the same branch office needs to travel via the server office. This leads to additional network usage, slow communication, requires a static IP address & has server overhead issues.
Sending a 2 MB file to 20 remote Users, will take up 40 MB’s of network traffic.

With Outlook Messenger Chat Server: For each office LAN a separate Link Server takes care of internal communication. Communication inside a branch will be transferred within LAN only. Messages will only be sent via internet when necessary for external communication.
In sending a 2 MB file to 20 remote users, just one 2 MB file is transferred to the remote office Link Server, which distributes the file to the 20 clients.
5. Is my message secure when travelling via Chat Server
Yes. Only authorized users & Link Servers can connect with Chat Server. You can also enable Encryption, either with a System defined key or a Custom Encryption key, for all outgoing messages. By using AES (Advanced Encryption Standard), all messages will be encrypted before sending to Chat Server. Even in online Chat Server, there is NO logging or decryption. Messages are ensured to reach their proper destination. All security functions are applied for safe message transfer.
6. What is the difference between Link Server and Chat Server?
Link Server is a small server designed to work only inside a LAN and VPN. It can only listen only one particular local IP Address & related Outlook Messenger network users can connect with Link Server. So no user authentication is needed in Link Server.

Chat Server is a mega server which runs on the internet, where authorized Link Server & Outlook Messenger Clients can connect with Chat Server from any location. Chat Server routes message between Link Server & Outlook Messenger clients.
7. In the Office, my Laptop is connected to a LAN. While travelling/at home, I will be connected via the Internet.
How do I configure Outlook Messenger to work in both environments?
You can define both a Link Server IP Address & Chat Server Login Details in your Outlook Messenger Settings.

On Outlook Messenger start-up, it will try to connect to the Link Server first.
If a connection is made, it will not try connecting to Chat Server.
If it is not able to connect to the Link Server, then it will try connecting to the Chat Server.

The reason is, within the office network you can connect to the Link Server & there is no need for the Chat Server. While travelling or at home you will not be able to connect to the Link Server, so you will be connected with the Chat Server.
8. Will it consume more network bandwidth?
No. Internal office communication data transfer will be done inside LAN only. Messages will only be sent via internet when necessary for external communication. Also link servers are smart enough to pack & distribute the message to users in a single transfer, instead of transferring for each user.
